District & State Testing

State Testing for 3rd to 5th grade students will begin in the Spring. Please ensure your child gets at least of 8 hours of sleep each and every day during testing. Encourage them to do their best.
 
You will be receiving a letter sent home before testing. If you want to get an idea of what the test looks like you can take a practice test at http://sbac.portal.airast.org/practice-test/ website. For general information about the test go to http://www.smarterbalanced.org/

There are several state tests administered on a yearly basis.  Most state testing occurs in April and May.  However, it is important to note that the ELPAC and 5th Grade California Physical Fitness Tests are not.

Below is a list of the state assessments that will be administered this year:

  • Initial English Language Proficiency Assessments for California (ELPAC) is given to students who are newly enrolled and who may be English Learners
 
  • English Language Proficiency Assessment (ELPAC) summative will be given in the Spring of 2018 to all students in TK - 5th  who were identified  been classified as English Learners.

 

The Initial ELPAC is administered within the first 10 calendar days the student is first enrolled in California public school for the first time.

SMARTER BALANCED ASSESSMENT CONSORTIUM (SBAC) SUMMATIVE
 
During the 2018-2019 Academic School Year students in all 3rd - 5th Grade students will take the Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium (SBAC) Summative test in English Language Arts and Mathematics.  The only exceptions will be students in Special Education whose IEP exempts them form this test. This test is computer based, so all students will take it on the computer.  If you would like your child to practice taking the test you may access practice tests by following the instructions below:
 
  1. Go to the http://sbac.portal.airast.org/practice-test/ website
  2. Scroll down and click on "Student Interface Practice and Training Test"
  3. Click on "Student Interface Practice and Training Tests"
  4. Click on "Sign In" (You do not have to type in anything into any of the fields)
  5. Select a Grade Level using the scroll down screen and press "Yes"
  6. On the next screen click on test you want to practice
There are 2 parts to each of the English Language Arts and Mathematics tests.  In total it is estimated that the English Language Arts test will take approximately 3.5 hours.  In total it is estimated the Mathematics test will take approximately 2,5 hours.  These time frames are approximations since these tests are untimed, so if students need more time it will be provided.
 
The 2 components of each test are as follows:
 
English Language Arts
Computer Adaptive Test, 1.5 hours        
(50 items including multiple choice, short answer, highlighting, etc.)
 
Performance Task, 2 hours            
(1 question/task related to the classroom activity.  It may have multiple parts but they are related)
 
Mathematics
Computer Adaptive Test, 1.5 hours 
(50 items including multiple choice, short answer, filling in blank spaces)
 
Performance Task, 1 hours
