Pedestrian Safety

Many people in the 95th Street Elementary School community walk to school. We would like to encourage parents to select a safe route between home and school for their children. Become familiar with the route by walking it together. Adults can also set a good example for students by obeying all pedestrian laws.

Some suggestions for pedestrian safety:

  • Obey traffic rules and officers
  • Use marked crosswalks at intersections when crossing the street
  • Look all ways before crossing the street
  • Watch for turning cars at intersections
  • Observe stop signs and traffic signals
  • Do not dart into the street from between parked cars
  • Do not walk between parked cars
  • Walk on the left, facing traffic where no sidewalks are provided
  • Be extra alert on foggy, rainy days, and after sunset
